Give Back, Feel Good: Volunteering at Animal Shelters

Shelters and rescues across Montgomery are looking for dedicated volunteers who want to make a real difference in the lives of animals. Because most shelters operate on a shoestring budget, depending entirely on grants and donations, the equity of volunteer man- or woman-power cannot be stressed enough.

At Vaughn Road Veterinary Clinic, we often get questions from prospective volunteers looking for shelters or rescues to generously give their time to. The questions sometime include what types of services they can provide, or how they can best be of service.

Some shelters have an appointed volunteer manager who is tasked with scheduling training specific to the needs of the organization, while many others simply rely on the volunteer figuring how they can be of service. A good place to start is to mentally review your resume and think about what sort of work appeals most to you, as well as what skills you have to offer.
